Brunchin’ on Alberta

Hello hello! Who is excited for it to be Monday tomorrow?!!! I know I’m not! I got to sleep in this morning and it was amazing. The past few weeks have been pretty busy at work, so I’ve been feeling a little more tired than usual. That being said, it was wonderful getting to sleep in and take it easy this weekend.

Friday Night & a Bohemian Rhapsody Performance

Well, this weekend was somewhat laidback. This past Friday was Ian’s sister-in-law’s birthday, so we all went over to Ian’s parents’ house for birthday cake and gift opening. After hanging out for a while, we decided to head over to a nearby live music bar to celebrate with his sister-in-law and brother. It was an absolute blast listening to music, trying to talk over the music, and watching other people dance and what not.

After hanging out there for a few hours, the music ended and we decided it was time to leave BUT we noticed that there just so happened to be a karaoke bar just down the street.. so we had to check it out. And you know what? I am so happy we did. The bar was filled with interesting people, many of which were at least 40 years older than us – but it was an absolute blast! In fact, me and Ian’s sister-in-law worked up the courage to sing karaoke together, making it our first time ever singing karaoke. IT WAS AWESOME. We rocked out to Bohemian Rhapsody and probably looked like two lunatics jumping around the floor, but we were two happy lunatics. It was probably the most fun I’ve had in a while ☺️

Winston gets bigger.

The next morning, Ian and I woke up early to head to Winston’s vet appointment. Both of us where exhausted from going to bed late after staying out all night singing and hanging out, but we were both so happy we lost sleep and had fun. The memories we made Friday night were definitely worth the lack of sleep.

And guess what? After taking Winston to the vet, we learned that he now weighs 101 lbs! He’s getting so big! It’s so crazy for me to think that he was only 15 lbs at this time last year. Crazy.

After Winston’s vet appointment, we headed home and decided to take it easy for the rest of the day. Ian played Red Dead Redemption (a video game he is obsessed with) and I took a nap. I never take naps, so it felt great letting myself nap for a few hours. We then finished our night by making a homemade (naan) pizza and watching Lucifer. For those of you who haven’t heard of Lucifer and are looking for a new show to watch, I highly recommend watching it. I love detective/ police shows, so this show definitely puts a fun twist on crime in Los Angeles and religion. If you watched the show Grimm, you might like this show too.

Adventures on Alberta

After taking it easy Saturday, we decided that we wanted to leave our apartment for at least a little on Sunday. Ian then came up with the idea to grab brunch at Petite Provence – somewhere neither of us had ever visited before – and it was a great call.

Despite living in Portland for just about 7 months now, I hadn’t really spent much time exploring Alberta and everything it has to offer. Including Petite Provence, until today that is.

I knew within the first minute of walking in, that this place was going to be good. There were people ordering pastries at the takeout counter and the restaurant was filled with people enjoying their freshly made food. Being as busy as it was, we found ourselves waiting for 20 minutes or so before being seated.

Besides gawking at the delicious food being served around us, I couldn’t help but admire the beautiful French inspired decor. It actually brought me back to my days living in Lille (France), which made me very happy. I have been thinking about my time studying in Lille a lot recently, so it was nice feeling like I was back in France while eating there. It actually reminded me a lot of PAUL, which was a French café chain that I used to visit from time to time (although, it was out of my budget often times – so it was more of a treat for me).

While waiting for our food, we decided to treat ourselves to caffeinated beverages – because why not? Ian ordered their BKW latte (we think that is what it was called) which contained: espresso, kahlua, frangelico, and baileys. I tried a sip of it and wow was it good.

I ordered their matcha latte and again, what a great choice. Just thinking about it is making me want to go back and order another one. It was soooooo good!

And as if amazing drinks weren’t enough, their food came out incredibly delicious as well. I ordered the La Provence Benedict, which came on croissant instead of the traditional english muffin that most places serve the eggs on.

It was absolutely incredible.

Ian ordered their Monte Carlo sandwich and was also just as happy as I was. If you care to see their full menu, you can do so here.

After eating perhaps more than we should have, Ian and I decided to walk off our breakfast and explore more of what Alberta had to offer.

While walking on Alberta Street, you can expect to find lots of beautiful murals, shops, galleries, cafés, restaurants, and bars. I loved looking at the colorful murals and shops that we passed by. In fact, after doing more research on this street, I learned that every month on the last Thursday of the month, they have a street fair. Looks like I will be going next month since I will be in Wyoming for this month’s street fair 🙂

They also had the most adorable art supply store called Collage. I loved how color coordinated their store was.

They also had an entire wall dedicated to washi tape. I nearly lost it. I had to have Ian restrain me from spending all of my money on pretty looking tape. I will be back and I will buy some of their washi tape.

While we did see quite a few shops, there are still so many shops, cafés, and restaurants that we haven’t explored yet. That being said, I can’t wait to head over to Alberta Street again in the near future to see what else they have to offer!

A picture of me in my new coat that my grandma convinced me to get. Thank you Grandma ❤

As for the rest of today, Ian and I watched one more episode of Lucifer, worked on our photo gallery wall (I’ll be sure to share pics of it once it is done), and headed to gym to work off our not-so-healthy breakfast. And now here I am, writing to you all about my weekend! So now for you:

What did you do this weekend?

Do you have a favorite brunch spot?

What show/shows are you watching right now?

~ Britt
