My Birthday, Life Changes, & Weekend Adventures πŸŽ‚πŸ™ƒ

Oh my gosh hi guys. Wow. I feel like it has been a while since I have been able to just sit down and write on here. This past week has been both wonderful and absolutely insane. Maybe one of the busier weeks I have had in the past few months, if that even means anything these days πŸ˜‚

Before I get started on catching you all up, feel free to grab a coffee (or two) and let me know what you have been up to in the comments section of this post!

My Birthday! πŸ₯‚

It’s funny because I remember as a kid and teenager being SO excited for my birthdays. I mean, I made countdowns and everything. I LOVED my birthday.

Before I knew it, each birthday got a little less exciting and this year was probably the first year that I forgot about my birthday until a few days before when Ian asked me where I wanted to celebrate my birthday. I guess with everything going on right now in my life.. my birthday was the last thing on my mind, which is totally fine!

Despite my birthday being at the back of my mind, it was still a really nice birthday πŸ™‚ I woke up, treated myself to a coffee from Queue Coffee while working, was showered with text messages and phone calls from friends and family, enjoyed homemade pumpkin pie made by Ian’s dad, and got ready for dinner at one of my favorite restaurants in Portland!

Work that day was crazy busy which made me more than excited to press pause on life and enjoy dinner at Toro Bravo with Ian πŸ™‚

I may have even treated myself to a celebratory drink!

As for dinner, Ian and I ordered a few tapas to share and before I knew it I was stuffed!! Their food is incredibly rich and filling at Toro Bravo, so I underestimated the serving sizes and spoiled dessert for myself. Oh well! It was worth it πŸ˜‚

Life Changes 🚚

Wednesday morning, Ian and I headed off to work and a fews hours into the day Ian discovered that he would be transferring to his company’s office in CHICAGO (with a promotion)! What?!! I couldn’t help feeling both excited and terrified. On one hand I would get to be close to my family BUT on the other hand… I would need to plan a cross country move within 3 weeks AND say our goodbyes. For those of you that do not know this already about me, IΒ hateΒ goodbyes. Thankfully our goodbyes will not be true goodbyes.. but it still makes me sad thinking about how much I love Ian’s family and how we won’t be able to see them as easily as we did while living here. It’s definitely tough having families on opposite ends of the country :/

That all being said, life is a little crazy for us right now. We are trying to organize ourselves for a big move and get dates nailed down as to when we can start our cross-country drive to Illinois. There is a slight chance we may be forced to drive during Thanksgiving, so I am really praying that we do not need to make the trek that week. I will keep you guys posted though!

Weekend Getaway in Leavenworth, WA

Seeing that my company gives birthday PTO, I decided to save my PTO (paid time off) for Friday. Ian was able to get Friday off as well, so he planned a trip for us to go to Leavenworth for my birthday! I had been wanting to go to Leavenworth for about a year now, so I was so so happy when Ian booked a hotel for two nights there πŸ™‚

We then drove around 5 hours from our apartment to Leavenworth and oh was it gorgeous. All of the leaves were orange, yellow, green, and red. The mountains we drove by were beautiful AND we event drove through a desert with tumbleweeds blowing across the highway at one point! It was such a scenic drive!

I want to share more about our weekend trip to Leavenworth with you all but I think I am going to dedicate an entire post to our trip, so stay tuned! I think you guys will absolutely fall in love with this adorable town!

And there you have it, a very summarized version of our week last week! Now, it’s your turn!

~ What did you do last week?

~ What’s new with you?

~ Do you have a favorite restaurant in your town? If so, what is it called and why do you love it?

~ Any plans for Halloween this year?

  1. Happy Birthday! My favourite restaurant right now is a sushi buffet πŸ˜› It’s called Konnichiwa. Halloween is not celebrated so much here but it seems to be getting bigger every year. But we don’t have the tradition of trick or treating. I already celebrated Halloween early in the month with my goddaughter, baking spider muffins, mummy fingers and mouldy pizza! We also did some crafts and decorated. There is only one pumpkin patch here (!!) which is open on one weekend. I went there with my kids. Thankfully on the first day as they ran out of pumpkins, so on Sunday there were none!!!!

    1. Oh my gosh ONE pumpkin patch!! I can only imagine how crazy it must have been! There are so many pumpkin patches out here and each one is usually packed with people! It sounds like you had a lovely time celebrating with your goddaughter though! Mouldy pizza? That is something I need to see!

  2. Unfortunately I didn’t have such the adventurous weekend you had, I worked πŸ˜”
    And….unfortunately I’m also working on Halloween 😒
So nothing new here to report.

  3. Happy Birthday to you!! I love how all these leaves are falling and changing, such a pretty picture! No way, you’re moving to Chicago!? How awesome!! It’s definitely on a place I wanna go someday. It looks stunning. Lots of love and prayers to you all during this moving transition. That’ll be hectic, but a fun experience!

How funny, I posted about my new favorite restaurant here in Nashville that serves both Indian and Chinese cuisine! So, so good. I’m already craving it again. I don’t even know if the kids in my apartment complex trick or treat. I’m not a decorative person whatsoever, but I bought Halloween candy just in case and taped some Halloween ribbon to the door in hopes that people know I have candy. πŸ˜‚ So, who knows if they’ll show up, but if not, I bought like 3 bags that we’ll have to devour ourselves.πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

    1. Thanks Stephanie ❀

It's definitely going to be a busy month! And a restaurant that serves both Indian & Chinese?! Now that's a concept!

As for Halloween, who knows! I know that there are not really any kids that live in our complex.. and all of the buildings have separate security gates / access points, so I know we will not be having any trick-or-treaters this year. Maybe your tactic will work though! If not, you have lots of candy to enjoy πŸ™‚

      1. You’re so welcome! It was such a super cool restaurant! I made Stephen go with me because I was so happy with the food and service the first of time! Awh, I hope you take the night to watch some throwback Halloween movies and just enjoy it a little bit! I can’t remember the last Halloween movie I watched, but it would be neat to relax and do so. We’ve already started eating the candy, so definitely more for us if we don’t have any! Haha.

  4. It looks like you had a great birthday! Your fall pictures are beautiful. I can’t wait to see all of your Chicago adventures in the future, I’ve been a few times and it is a great city. Last week we went to downtown Raleigh and to the art museum. It was a beautiful fall weekend and a great time to be outside. There are so many good restaurants here in Raleigh, it would be too hard to pick just one! I do love Brewery Bhvana, Sitti, Lucette Grace and City Market Sushi to name a few. This Halloween I will be off of work, so we are going to try to go for a hike (if it doesn’t rain). I am looking forward to seeing more blog posts!

    1. Thanks Katie! I can’t wait to share my Chicago adventures with you all πŸ™‚

If I find myself in Raleigh in the future I will definitely be sure to stop at those spots! I am sure Ian would love to check out Brewery Bhvana haha

Hope you enjoy your hike! Thanks for stopping by ❀

  5. I have totally stopped getting excited for my birthdays, too. At least your man remembered for you πŸ˜‰ & the tapas place looks like a wonderful way to celebrate the day.

Chicago seems like an awesome place to live! Wild that you had only 3 weeks notice to get out there though! Best of luck with the move & safe travels. πŸ’—
